Environmental Education has been an inherent part of our school curriculum for a couple of years. For our students here in Northern Iraq, it is essential to learn why and how they can protect the environment. This topic is of the utmost importance specifically in camps where so much plastic is being used.
Our students had the chance of visiting a recycling center run by the organization Jinda today and witnessed firsthand what active environment protection looks like and what recycling can truly accomplish. Jinda set up bins in camps in Kaberto so that rubbish like plastic can be collected and recycled. The children got to see how the collected plastic was organised by colour, chopped in a shredding machine and then heated up to over 200 degrees Celsius in order to create new objects like flower pots, tables or pictures. This experience brought the children closer to understanding how something that is seemingly trash can be used to create something valuable and how recycling can make a positive difference for our environment.
We'd like to extend a heartfelt 'Thank You' to the team at Organization Jinda for their engaging presentation and the valuable work they do for our environment and the people here. Experiences like these are part of a valuable foundation so that our children can grow into responsible and environmentally conscious adults.
